Position Summary:
The technology support specialist position is a professional position responsible for performing a variety of technical and end-user support duties of routine difficulty, complexity and scope involving the installation, malfunction, maintenance, and replacement of standard desktop/laptop computers, peripheral devices, and internal specialized systems. | Duties: | Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provides technical support for standard desktop/laptop computer hardware, software, and applications as well as specialized internal information systems.
Utilizes and operates a variety of diagnostic and portable test equipment or software to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve problems, determining whether problem is system-related, hardware, software, or the end-user.
Assumes responsibility for the care, regular maintenance, and cleaning of computer and peripheral equipment.
Installs, operates, and tests operating systems, software programs and related peripheral devices, examining output for legibility, clarity, completeness, and compliance with desired program results.
Installs and replaces monitors, personal computers, keyboards, printers, communication devices, modems, and other peripheral devices.
Identifies and documents equipment for inventory, maintaining records for delivery, installation and call records.
Submits network and electronic mail requests for technical support staff, ensuring receipt of requests and follow-up.
Performs network administration functions including creation, deletion, maintenance, and assignment of rights to users, groups, and shared files.
Researches and recommends viable system alternatives, products and services to existing user configurations.
Acts as liaison between end-users and technical support staff to resolve hardware and software problems.
Conducts on-the-job training or assists users, participating in computer technology classes, in the proper operation and care of software programs, personal computer, peripheral devices, and software programs.
Documents problems relating to hardware, software, and setup of prescribed formats, resolving them independently or referring them to appropriate staff or outside vendors as needed.
Assures the compatibility of new equipment with internal applications systems and specifications required by ECSI
Ensures availability and suitability of operating system, software and utility programs.
May diagnose local server and local network communication and equipment problems.
Performs network installation and configuration functions of printers and other peripheral devices.
Assists in the establishment of guidelines and implements software security programs
All other duties as assigned.
| Qualifications: | Experience, Education and Licensure
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent or two to four years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Language Skills
Ability to respond clearly and professionally either verbally or in writing to inquiries or complaints from customers. Ability to utilize verbal skills to de-escalate highly dissatisfied customers without supervisor intervention.
